About the venue

A room worth playing in.

The Millworks opened in 2014 in a converted textile mill in downtown Northampton. We built the room with one thing in mind: it had to sound good acoustically before we ever ran a single cable.

We’re 400-capacity standing, 250 seated. Full bar and kitchen. We book about 120 shows a year, almost all of them roots music in some form: bluegrass, Americana, old-time, folk, and the occasional genre-defying outlier that fits the room.

We’re independently owned. That means we book what we love, not what a consultant tells us will perform. It also means we can take chances on artists early in their careers and keep ticket prices reasonable.

The space

The main room is the original mill floor — exposed brick, timber framing, twelve-foot ceilings. The stage is a modest raised platform at the north end. No bad sightlines. We added a full-length bar along the east wall in 2017 and a small kitchen in 2019. The back lawn opens for outdoor shows May through September, weather permitting, with a temporary stage and capacity of about 600.
